Windows User Permissions

Where Windows 8 is used as the PC operating system, there can be issues with users accessing the program. These issues are caused by the access rights established in Windows 8 and are NOT caused by the Tradebox program. The following article is taken from Microsoft and explains how to amend the user permissions set by Windows 8 on specific files and folders.

  1. Ensure all Tradebox programs are closed by closing all Tradebox processes in Task Manager.
  2. Navigate to C:\Program Files through Windows Explorer.
    1. Note: If you see C:\Program Files (x86), go to that folder instead as that means you have a 64bit computer.
  3. Right-click on the Tradebox folder.
  4. Choose Properties.
  5. Click the Security tab.
  6. Click the Advanced button.
  7. In the Owner field up top, ensure the Users group is selected. If you see SYSTEM or something other than Users, you will need to take ownership of the Tradebox folder.


  • Take Ownership if you do not see USERS as the owner


  1. In the Advanced Security Settings for Tradebox permissions window, click Change for the owner field.
  2. Type USERS and press Enter.
  3. Place a checkmark in the Replace owner on subcontainers and objects box.
  4. Select Users (YOUR COMPUTER NAME\Users) Full Control and click OK.


  1. In the Tradebox folder properties window, and on the security tab, now click the Edit button.
  2. Select Users (YOUR COMPUTER NAME\Users) and make sure Full Control has a check mark in it.
  3. Click OK to exit the Tradebox folder properties window.
  4. See if this resolves the issue you were experiencing. If not, you will need to repeat these steps above for these additional Tradebox folder locations:
  • C:\Program Files\Common Files\Tradebox (Note: if you are on a 64bit computer, you will need to use C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Tradebox)
  • C:\ProgramData\Tradebox
  • C:\Users\Your User Name\AppData\Local\Tradebox
