Networking Tradebox Finance Manager

Tradebox is designed and tested to work on client PC’s with any of the following operating systems:

  • Windows 10
  • Windows 8
  • Windows 7
  • Windows Vista

It is NOT designed or tested to work on a server operating system and therefore the Tradebox program should only be installed on a client PC. If the Tradebox program is installed upon a server utilising software other than the above named operating systems, support may not be offered.

However, the Tradebox data can be relocated onto a server or a shared network drive. This allows the Tradebox program to be installed on more than 1 PC and share the data with other installations of Tradebox across a network.

Tradebox is not designed as a classic network program, so only one Tradebox application can access the Tradebox data at any one time.

The following instructions to network the Tradebox data, assume the program is already installed on a PC:

It's important to make sure all installations of Tradebox are running the same version. Before sharing the data, follow these steps to upgrade the existing install to the most recent version of Tradebox Finance Manager. Future updates will need to be applied to each computer that runs Tradebox.

As part of the networking, you may wish to relocate your Tradebox data to a network location. Alternatively, you may be sharing it from its existing location. In either case, should make sure your Tradebox Data folder is shared for all users with read/write or full control permissions across the network. You can check your Data Folder location at any time from the Support page within Tradebox.

To relocate your data:

  1. From the PC Tradebox is installed upon, navigate across the network to the location you wish to move the data to and create a new folder called Tradebox Data.
  2. From the Maintenance menu in the Tradebox program select the Relocate Database option.
  3. This will generate a dialog box (below) which will tell you where the Current Location of the Tradebox data and provide an option to move the data to a New Location.
  4. To move the Tradebox data from the PC to the new Tradebox Data folder on the network click on the […] button  at the end of the New Location field, navigate to the Tradebox Data folder and select OK.

To connect a client PC to the data folder on the network you will need to do the following:

  1. Download and install Tradebox onto the new PC following these steps.
  2. Tradebox will install onto the new PC as a trial version of the software. Serial numbers or activation keys do NOT need to be added to the trial version as these will be read from the data folder on the network once connected.
  3. From the Maintenance menu in the Tradebox program select the Relocate Database option.
  4. This will generate a dialog box (below) which will tell you where the Current Location of the Tradebox data on the PC and provide an option to point the Tradebox program at an Existing Database.
  5. To point the new installation of Tradebox to the existing Tradebox Data folder on the network click on the […] button at the end of the Existing Database field, navigate to the Tradebox Data folder and select OK.
