An issue that is sometimes experienced after renewing a Tradebox licence is the local expiry date of the software not extending. When a renewal subscription is received the user's specific licence expiry date is extended and uploaded to a Licence Server in the Cloud. Every time the Tradebox application is opened on the user's PC it checks the Licence Server and updates its local licence expiry date in line with the expiry date published in the Cloud.
There are a number of reasons why the licence may not extend, as follows:
- You are using an outdated version of the Tradebox software which needs upgrading.
- The User Account Control (UAC) is set too high
- Anti-Virus software is preventing the update.
- The Windows Operating System on the PC is out of date and needs updating.
- Permission rights on your PC or network are preventing the local licence being updated.
The following article has been designed to assist you in trouble shooting this problem, if it occurs.
You are using an outdated version of the Tradebox software
In Tradebox select Support and take a note of the Version No under Program Information. You can see if this is the latest version of the program by looking at the What's New page. The most recent release is at the top. If you need to update the software follow the instructions in the Upgrading Tradebox article.
The User Account Control (UAC) is set too high
If you are already on the latest build of Tradebox and the licence still hasn't updated checks need to be made on their environment which may be preventing the local licence being updated. Often this is caused by the User Account Control (UAC) being set too high on Windows. The Permission Issues article contains information on amending the Windows UAC.
Anti-Virus software is preventing the update
Sometimes the Anti-Virus software can prevent the local licence from updating. Ensure the AV software is fully updated. If this doesn't work it may be worthwhile considering temporarily suspending the AV software to rule out whether it is interfering, or not. Please ensure that you get the permission of the system administrator first. Tradebox will NOT accept any responsibility for any issues caused by suspending AV software.
The Windows Operating System is out of date
In the Control Panel of the PC select the Windows Update icon and then choose the Check for Updates link. If Important Updates are available download and install them. Then re-boot the PC. Before opening Tradebox check the User Account Control (UAC) setting (as described above) to ensure these have not been automatically amended during the Windows Update.
Permission rights on your PC or network are preventing the local licence being updated
In this scenario you would need to speak with the system administrator to ascertain whether the Tradebox program has sufficient permissions on the PC or network to write data to the Tradebox database.
