The To Excel Button
Several screens in Tradebox One feature the To Excel button. In the Orders and Products modules the same function is accessed via Export > List Contents to Excel.
This will take the current grid and open it in Microsoft Excel. The grid is passed with all currently visible columns and any sorting or filtering you’ve done in Tradebox will be retained; in short, the spreadsheet will display the information exactly as it appears on your screen in TBv1.
Working with the files
Once in Excel, it’s a standard spreadsheet and can be manipulated in any way you see fit. A couple of tips for working with spreadsheets generated by TBv1:
- Each use of the To Excel button will create a new spreadsheet so there’s no risk of the program overwriting your work. The spreadsheet is created in your temp directory, so to make it easier to find your work later we recommend using Save As to save a copy to your desktop or documents folder if you want to keep the file for later use.
- Any grids that feature an amount total after the last line (e.g. the Orders screen, if it's filtered to a single currency) will pass the total to Excel. By default, Excel will format the totals rounded to the nearest whole Pound/Euro/etc. The unrounded figure will be displayed in Excel’s formula bar when the relevant cell is highlighted; alternatively right-click the total cells and choose format cell(s), set the cell type to Number with 2 decimal places.
Each report is created as a .xlsx file and saved to your temp folder in Windows. Once saved, Tradebox then tells Windows to open the file. This means the program that opens using To Excel is determined by Windows default behaviour for xlsx file types.
If you’re having any issues with the To Excel button, in the first instance close Excel completely and check in Task Manager that you have no Excel processes running, then retry the button.
If the problem persists, make sure any other .xlsx files open normally in Windows.
If you’re having issues, it’s also worth clearing temporary files for your windows user – Windows Key + R to bring up a Run dialog > type %temp% > OK. Use Ctrl + A to select all files > Delete. It’s normal for a number of temp files to be in use at any time, tick the box apply to all, and choose skip/ignore. Note that this may take some time depending on when your temp directory was last cleared. Once it’s complete, close and reopen Tradebox One completely, then retry the To Excel button.
